Mathews Company Grain Dryers Nationally Certified
for Safety and Performance

Because each M-C horizontal dryer meets the CPCS, farmers and government inspectors alike won't be misled by equipment that may only have certain parts certified, such as heaters and fans. This will save farmers from paying for full field certification and follow-up visits by inspectors, as well as avoiding the risk of having the gas shut off to the dryer for noncompliance.

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill., U.S.A. - Mathews Company, a U.S. manufacturer of grain dryers and other agricultural equipment, announced that its horizontal grain dryers have received product safety and performance certification from Intertek Testing Services (ITS), a testing organization accredited by the Standards Council of Canada

By meeting the Canadian Product Certification Standard (CPCS) of Gas-Fired Equipment for Drying Farm Crops (CAN/CGA-3.8-M86), all M-C horizontal grain dryers are fully certified for use on Canadian farms

"The certification is of tremendous benefit to our customers in Canada," says Richard Zinke, general sales manager of Mathews Company. "It indicates that our dryers conform to the applicable standards, so farmers aren't burdened with the certification process in the field. They don't have to wait for someone to go to the farm, and they don't have to pay for an evaluation under the Field Installation Code.

"Farmers who purchase a grain dryer that does not meet the CPCS still have time and money to spend. They have to contact a certification company to conduct the Field Installation Code certification," says Rob McMahon, plant manager for Mathews Company

"If the government discovers the farmer is operating a non-certified dryer, it will issue a warning stating the machine must come into compliance. If the dryer doesn't meet CPCS requirements when an inspector returns, the gas company will disconnect gas service from the dryer."

Zinke adds, "Each time an inspector visits the farm to determine if the dryer has come into compliance, the farmer may be charged. Because of these inconveniences to the farmer, Mathews Company decided to obtain certification of each horizontal dryer before marketing them in Canada."

Mathews Company worked with ITS to meet CPCS requirements for each of its horizontal grain dryers. As each dryer model was completed, an ITS representative spent approximately 20 days reviewing the dryer and the list of all its components to verify that everything complied with CPCS requirements.

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is a federal Crown corporation charged with overseeing Canada's National Standards Systems. Accredited standards-development organizations or committees composed of producers, consumers and other relevant interests may submit standards to the SCC for approval as National Standards of Canada.

Each proposed standard must undergo a public review process, be available in both official languages and must not be worded in such a way that it will act as a restraint to trade. Standards provide safety or performance requirements for products and services.

Because M-C horizontal grain dryers have been found to comply with the Canadian Product Certification Standard of Gas-Fired Equipment for Drying Farm Crops, farmers have access to top-quality equipment that is ready to use with no additional expense.
